Tuesday Concurrent Block 3: Lifestyle Medicine Grand Rounds: Stump the Stars!

Building on the popular monthly Zoom-based Lifestyle Medicine Grand Rounds, “Stump the Stars” will make its third annual in-person appearance at this year’s ACLM conference. Prepare to be dazzled and inspired as expert panelists analyze a challenging case, share educational insights, arrive at a diagnosis, and collaborate to formulate a treatment plan. Medical grand rounds has a rich history, tracing back to the 19th century with Sir William Osler's advocacy for their use as a pivotal educational tool. Originally centered on bedside teaching, the format evolved to accommodate larger audiences in auditorium settings. While most modern hospital-based grand rounds have devolved into PowerPoint presentations on specific topics—often focused on drugs or procedures—Lifestyle Medicine Grand Rounds revives the roots of traditional grand rounds. It emphasizes the presentation of an actual patient case with in-depth analysis by a panel of experienced Lifestyle Medicine practitioners. This revival parallels the broader return to the foundational principles of patient healing through the practice of Lifestyle Medicine. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness highly experienced Lifestyle Medicine practitioners tackle a complex, real-world case!

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify a diagnostic issue raised during the case presentation(s).
  2. Describe a treatment strategy utilizing at least one of the six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine.
  3. Recognize at least one obstacle to effectively treating the patient(s) presented.
