Wednesday Post-Conference Workshop: Lifestyle Medicine as Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease and Cancer
We will describe the relationship and pathophysiology of lifestyle habits in the development of cardiovascular disease and cancer and of its risk factors. We will discuss the latest evidenced-based research of whole food, plant-based dietary patterns, exercise, and others in treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, coronary artery disease and cancers. We will teach specific methods to implement lifestyle changes during patient clinic, to utilize team-based approaches with other health care team members, and to collect and monitor long term data to continue successful progress in managing cardiovascular risk factors, coronary artery disease and cancer.
Learning Objectives
- Summarize pathophysiologic contribution of maladaptive lifestyle habits in the development of cardiovascular disease and cancers.
- Interpret health benefits of whole food plant-based dietary patterns, regular exercise, and other positive lifestyle habits, both prevention and treatment modalities for cardiovascular disease, cancer, their risk factors.
- Implement lifestyle methods and organize multidisciplinary approaches for successful treatment of coronary artery disease, stroke, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cancer and overall inflammation.
